FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT WORTH, TX (March 25, 2025) — Today, the City of Fort Worth officially marked a historic milestone with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its newly constructed Council Chamber—a defining moment in its broader initiative to modernize governance, improve public accessibility, and enhance operational efficiency. Athenian Group, a national leader in municipal relocations and project management, proudly served as the project management partner guiding this ambitious endeavor from concept to completion.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place immediately following the first official City Council meeting held in the new chamber inside Fort Worth’s newly established City Hall, formerly the iconic Pier One building. The event brought together current and former City leaders, including Mayor Mattie Parker, councilmembers, civic stakeholders, and the broader community to celebrate the future of public service in Fort Worth.
“This new City Hall—and especially the Council Chamber— is more than a building. It’s a statement about how Fort Worth values its residents and its public servants. City employees now have a beautiful, functional space that elevates their ability to serve, collaborate, and lead. And for residents, this investment in civic infrastructure creates a more accessible, transparent, and engaging experience. The long-term impact is profound. Fort Worth didn’t just build for today, it built for the future”, said Tanyan Farley, Senior Vice President of Athenian Group.
Athenian Group led the comprehensive project management efforts tied to the council chamber construction while also playing a critical role in the City’s overall reorganization strategy. AG conducted a rigorous facilities programming and stacking process, helping the City reimagine how departments could co-locate, interact, and operate. That process included:
Facilitating early site selection for the new City Hall
Developing an integrated space utilization strategy
Managing the relocation and optimization of the permitting office—now positioned to deliver a significantly enhanced customer experience
Designing and overseeing an implementation roadmap that supported City leadership and staff through all phases of acquisition, renovation, and construction.
The 250-seat Council Chamber was intentionally designed to serve as the City’s “front porch”—a welcoming and functional civic space that encourages transparency, public participation, and community engagement. The new chamber includes state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, accessibility features, and adjacent outdoor gathering spaces, making it a hub for governance and connection.
